11 Iranian police officers were killed in a terrorist attack on the Rask police headquarters in Sistan-Baluchistan. The attack resulted in a shootout with the security forces, leading to casualties among the assailants. The Sunni jihadist group Jaish al-Adl claimed responsibility for the attack. The region has been plagued by unrest involving drugs-smuggling gangs, Baluchi rebels, and Sunni Muslim extremists. Similar attacks have occurred in the past, including one by Taliban forces. Zahedan has also witnessed protests over alleged police misconduct.
