An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck the area off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, the Central Meteorological Administration in Taiwan said.
The epicenter of the earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean, 55.9 kilometers southeast of Hualien County, at a depth of 30 kilometers, according to the Meteorological Administration.
It was followed by a smaller, 4.6-magnitude earthquake with its epicenter offshore 23.8 kilometers northeast of Hualien at 11:07 a.m.
There were no reports of damage or injuries.
The two earthquakes on Sunday came weeks after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan on April 3, killing 17 people and injuring more than 1,100 others.
