Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper revealed that more than 5,000 Israeli soldiers have been injured since the beginning of the war on October 7, including more than 2,000 who were officially recognized as disabled.
A Hebrew newspaper revealed on Saturday that more than 5,000 Israeli soldiers have been injured since the beginning of the war on October 7, including more than 2,000 who were officially recognized as disabled.
Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said: “The cumulative numbers since October 7 are astronomical: more than 5,000 wounded soldiers arrived at hospitals, and more than 2,000 were officially recognized as disabled in the Israeli army and received by the Ministry of Defense.”
She added that among them were also "1,000 wounded regular soldiers, so the IDF is providing care for them."
The newspaper did not clarify whether the rest of the wounded soldiers were regular soldiers or not.
The newspaper quoted Limor Luria, head of the rehabilitation department in the Israeli Ministry of Defense, as saying: “We have never experienced anything similar to this. More than 58% of the wounded we receive suffer from serious injuries to the hands and feet, including those that require amputations.” .
Loria continued: “About 12% of them are internal injuries to the spleen and kidneys, rupture of internal organs, and there are also injuries to the head and eyes.”
The official added, "About 7% are psychologically injured, a number we know will rise sharply, because the assumption is that every injured body is also psychologically injured, and also because psychological injuries are always discovered months or more after the war."
It is noteworthy that the death toll of Israeli soldiers since the beginning of the war on October 7 has reached 420, according to official statistics.
Based on various data from the Israeli army, about 20 Israeli soldiers were killed during the past five days, out of a total of 420.
Since last October 7, the Israeli army has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving 17,487 martyrs and 46,480 wounded, most of them children and women, massive destruction of infrastructure, and an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe,” according to official Palestinian and UN sources.
