After global chaos, Crowdstrike CEO issues public apology

Crowdstrike has issued an apology after causing global chaos on Friday due to a glitch caused by a faulty update to its software, which crashed computers running Microsoft software.

About 6 hours after computing systems around the world went down , the CEO of the cybersecurity firm, George Kurtz, spoke out publicly saying the glitch was caused by a software bug.

"We deeply regret the impact this has had on our customers, our travelers and anyone affected by this, including our company," he said in an interview with NBC's "Today" show.

He also pledged to work with each customer individually while trying to restore internet service, which could take hours.

"It may take some time for some systems to recover automatically," Kurtz added.

The Crowdstrike malfunction affected computing systems around the world, with the resulting damage including problems in banks, airlines, and radio and television broadcasting companies around the world.

The glitch is due to a new update to a CrowdStrike software product , called Falcon, that has disabled Windows computers.
