The Austrian Freedom Party condemned Muslims praying in the streets of Vienna, which obstructs pedestrian movement and transportation, and party representatives called for tightening control over places of prayer.
This came according to the party's statement, which said that at the beginning of Eid al-Adha, the crowded "Goldschlag" street in the 15th district of Vienna was transformed into a prayer area for Muslims, a measure that "not only provoked the anger of the local residents, but also created a security threat for them, while disrupting the flow of... traffic and disrupted public order.”
The head of the party's Vienna branch and city council member Dominik Kneipp said: "Religious rituals should not be practiced in the streets of Vienna."
According to the representative, there are 200,000 Muslims in Vienna and there are about 80 places for prayer, meaning that “there are enough places, and if these places are not enough, the place of prayer can be moved to the home.”
Kneip continued: "If new immigrants are accustomed to spreading prayer rugs on the streets of their countries, they can continue to do so in their homelands! I demand strict enforcement of the rules for the use of public places and stricter monitoring. It is unacceptable for public order to be disturbed due to religious rituals."
