An Israeli proposal for the head of the Palestinian Authority’s intelligence to take over the administration of Gaza after the war

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant proposed that Palestinian Authority Intelligence Chief Majid Faraj take over the administration of the Gaza Strip temporarily, after the end of the war, while the leader of the opposition in Israel, Yair Lapid, welcomed the proposal, noting that Faraj is “one of the figures who worked most with us against Hamas.”

Hebrew media revealed that Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant proposed that Palestinian Authority Intelligence Chief Majid Faraj take over the administration of the Gaza Strip temporarily, after the end of the war.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (official) reported that Israel is considering using the head of Palestinian intelligence to build an alternative to the rule of Hamas on the day after the war.

She pointed out that the proposal stipulates that Majid Faraj would take over the administration of Gaza with the help of figures who do not include a member of the Hamas movement.

"He worked with us against Hamas"

For his part, the leader of the opposition in Israel, Yair Lapid, said, “It is natural for us to mention Faraj’s name, as he in the Palestinian Authority is one of the figures who worked most with us against Hamas.”

He stressed in a television interview that, “The civil service has no obstacle to working with the Palestinian Authority, because even today it works with them. The government must decide whether it will deal with politics or Israel’s security. If it is about Israel’s security, we will work with the Palestinian Authority.” .

Lapid added, "We will only guarantee our security, and not suggest relying on the Palestinian Authority in the war on terrorism."

Majed Faraj (61 years old) is considered the most powerful and senior security figure in the Palestinian Authority. He is considered close to Abbas, and has excellent relations with senior Israeli security officials, according to Israeli reports.

According to these reports, Majid Faraj coordinates on behalf of the authorities with the Shin Bet, the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and Arab and Western intelligence agencies.
