Karawang - Thousands of workers from Karawang Regency, West Java, went to Jakarta to take part in a demonstration in front of the State Palace on the occasion of International Labor Day or May Day.

"From SPSI Karawang, today there are around 5,000 workers who joined in commemorating International Labor Day in Jakarta," said Deputy Chairman of SPSI Karawang, Suparno, when contacted in Karawang, Wednesday.

He said that SPSI Karawang decided to join the May Day action in Jakarta on May 1 2024, because that was a direction from the SPSI leadership at the central level.

On his departure to Jakarta, Suparno ensured that there would be no sweeping actions .

In line with the action to Jakarta on May 1, SPSI Karawang did not hold a demonstration today in the Karawang area.

The new SPSI Karawang will commemorate May Day in the Karawang area the following day, Thursday (2/5). This activity will be held by carrying out social services such as blood donations, cheap bazaars, mass circumcisions for, and compensation for orphans.

In the demonstration in Jakarta, he said, SPSI will bring a number of demands, including the abolition of the Job Creation Law or Omnibus Law which is considered to be very detrimental to workers and society as well as demanding the elimination of outsourcing and low wages .

Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya has prepared 3,454 personnel to secure the commemoration of International Labor Day or May Day. The thousands of personnel are joint personnel from Polda Metro Jaya, Polres ranks, Kodam Jaya and DKI Provincial Government.

Security was carried out at a number of busy points during the commemoration of Labor Day in Jakarta, such as around the Horse Statue area and the Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium.
