As Xi Jinping pursues military buildup, China hikes defense budget by 7.2%

China has surpassed other nations to have the largest navy in the world by ship count and continues to expand its aircraft carrier fleet. It stands alongside the US and Russia as one of the only countries producing fifth-generation fighter jets. However, despite rapid advancements, including significant military capabilities in space which the US describes as increasing at a “breathtaking pace,” China faces internal challenges.
