Local authorities have said at least one person is seriously injured following the terrace collapse at the Medusa Beach Club.

There is no confirmation yet of whether those dead and injured are locals or tourists.

Reports are claiming a ceiling collapsed, although this has yet to be confirmed.

A local official said: “We have activated an emergency response as a result of the collapse of the ceiling of a two-storey building in Avenida Cartago in Playa de Palma, where people are trapped.

“Firefighters and local police are at the scene.”

Playa de Palma is the beach resort east of the Majorcan capital.
