A BARMAN has been arrested by police in Italy over the rape of a 20-year-old British tourist.
The arrest comes eight months after the woman reported she had been attacked in a Naples nightclub by the suspect who followed her in the toilet.
The barman was arrested eight months after the Brit reported the alleged attack in Naples[/caption]The 32-year-old suspect began chatting up the victim as she drank in the bar with friends in July last year.
But when she went to the loo he followed her and brutally attacked her according to local media.
The young Brit described the alleged attack as the “worst experience of her life” and told police at the time: “Suddenly he was on top of me and I saw his trousers down.
“There wasn’t my consent at all. I didn’t give my consent.”
After the attack, the traumatised holidaymaker went to hospital and reported the incident to police, who began an investigation.
And although she returned to England, she cooperated in providing DNA evidence and continued to help police track down her attacker, reports local media.
She returned to Italy in December to prosecutor Mariangela Magariello and deputy prosecutor Raffaello Falcone with further statements and identification
And her persistence paid off when police arrested the barman on 3rd March.
Naples judge Carla Sarno ordered him to be held under house arrest after prosecutors and the victim’s lawyer Lucilla Longone said there were fears he could try to flee.
Police continue to investigate CCTV footage and interview witnesses.
