Be aware of the types of drinks that can increase the risk of dementia

Jakarta - A leading neurologist specializing in Alzheimer's prevention has said it is necessary to be aware of the types of drinks that could increase the risk of dementia.

In a video upload on Instagram, American dementia researcher Robert Love provided a list of three popular drinks that could increase the risk of dementia.

As quoted in the Medical Daily broadcast on Thursday (30/1), Love said that alcoholic beverages were at the top of the list.

The Florida-based dementia expert says alcohol is neurotoxic, can damage and kill neurons, and is bad for gut bacteria.

"That's really important because what's good for your gut is also good for your brain. So by damaging your gut bacteria, it's bad for your brain," he said.

In addition to its negative impact on brain health and memory, alcohol poses other risks including liver damage, sleep disturbances, and inflammation.

Love calls beer the worst beverage for brain health because it contains gluten, which has inflammatory properties. Beer can also increase uric acid, which increases belly fat storage.
