On Friday Dutch prosecutors pushed for a harsh sentence for the 24-year-old suspect Nongo B, deeming he should be convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
The man was allegedly captured in security footage walking along the canals with Danny on May 31 before his death.
The body of the 22-year-old was found on the Singel the following day.
Despite the efforts of the emergency workers to revive him, Danny was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators revealed they discovered the suspect had ingested a large quantity of drugs upon his arrest.
Traces of Danny’s blood on his clothing and shoes were what made cops link him to the crime scene.
The pair was captured by CCTV by the Singel, where Nongo is said to have launched the attack “out of nowhere.”
Officials believe he dragged Danny’s body to the side of the road in a bid to get rid of evidence before fleeing the scene.
Heart-wrenching tributes for Danny from Nottinghamshire poured in after his death.
Danny’s devastated family described him as a keen traveller who had visited 23 countries before the age of 22.
His parents said at the time: “Danny had a long list of places that he wanted to visit in the future.
“One of those was to the Bahamas to swim with pigs. His ambition was to work on and promote music festivals as a career, and probably live abroad.”
Amsterdam was one of the many places on his bucket list but it was “sadly this was cut short by an unnecessary, senseless act”, his sister Chloe told Leeds Live.
She has created an apparel line DrippylikeDanny in her brother’s memory.
The family have been fundraising for campaigns against knife crime.
