Colorado U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet is threatening to shut down the U.S. government unless House Republicans include aid to fund Ukraine’s government in the war with Russia.

We’ve seen some upside-down politics this century, but this surely beats all — threatening a U.S. government shutdown unless American taxpayers fund a foreign government.

The Washington Times reports Congress still isn’t over the funding hump and faces the now common threat of a partial shutdown Sunday if an agreement is not reached.

Bennet’s threat would shut down 70% of government agencies including the military and Defense Department, State Department, Homeland Security, and the Treasury.

It would also temporarily shutter the Education Department, but who cares?

Bennet’s call to fellow Democrats to shut down our Defense Department if we don’t send billions more to Ukraine’s military and government went like this:

Sen. Michael Bennet, Colorado Democrat, said on Friday that the speaker’s comment made it clear that “he doesn’t have a real plan to pass Ukraine aid.”

“That is unacceptable,” Mr. Bennet posted on X. “As I said yesterday, the government funding package should include Ukraine aid. Democrats should reject it if it doesn’t.”

Putting another country’s military needs above our own sure sounds treasonous and a breach of the public trust that as a U.S. Senator, Bennet would protect our country above all others.
