Sources revealed that a secret meeting took place in Riyadh between Ukrainian and Western officials on December 16, regarding the so-called peace formula proposed by Vladimir Zelensky, failed to reach any results.
According to information reported by Bloomberg newspaper, citing sources: “No significant progress was made at the meeting,” and the sources indicated that “during the discussion, Ukraine’s allies tried to rally support for Kiev’s conditions in negotiating with Russia.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine and the G7 countries continued to “resist calls from countries of the Global South to engage directly with Russia” on the issue, and it is noteworthy that while Saudi Arabia, India and Turkey participated in the meeting, China, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates did not send their representatives to it.
Speaking via video to participants at the G20 summit in mid-November 2022, Zelensky said Kiev had its own 10-point “plan for peace.”
The points of Zelensky's plan include: "ensuring nuclear, food and energy security, exchanging detainees according to an all-for-all formula, and restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine."
The Ukrainian President indicated that Kiev insists on providing it with international security guarantees and drafted a corresponding document. Zelensky added that Ukraine wants to achieve the establishment of an international mechanism to compensate it for losses in military operations at the expense of Russian assets.
While repeatedly drawing attention to the formula it prepared, Kiev has consistently rejected proposals from third parties. In particular, Zelensky, commenting on the initiatives of the Vatican and Brazil to reach a settlement, said that his country does not need mediators.
In turn, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed that the so-called Zelensky peace plan is another American methodology to provoke conflict in Europe, and Russian President Dmitry Peskov's press secretary indicated that Zelensky's statements regarding the peace settlement are made without taking into account the existing facts.
