Body indicators through which health status can be assessed

Scientists at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine have discovered that certain body roundness index (BRI) measurements, which include height, waist circumference and hip circumference, can indicate heart disease and muscular dystrophy.

JAMA Network Open notes that measuring weight helps doctors identify people at greatest risk of obesity-related death, but recent studies have shown that traditional measurements of body fat, such as body mass index (BMI), may not provide enough data to evaluate fat distribution.

Scientists suggest assessing health using the Body Roundness Index (BRI). Which is calculated based on height, waist circumference and hip circumference to fill this knowledge gap.

Scientists have proven, in a study in which 32,995 volunteers participated, that people with a low body roundness index (tall with a small waist and hip circumference) have a 25 percent increased risk of death from all causes.

Researchers confirm that a very low body turnover index may indicate malnutrition, fatigue, intolerance to physical activity, and muscular dystrophy.

A high BMI (height with a large waist and hip circumference) is highly associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders, and cancer.
