Brave British Bulldog helping to deliver aid packages to desperate civilians stuck on Ukraine front line

A BRITISH Bulldog is helping to save the day in Ukraine — by delivering aid packages to civilians stuck on the front line.

Eight-year-old Ray, whose harness is done out in the yellow and blue of the Ukraine flag, has made frequent trips to the warzone with his 58-year-old owner John Hill since Russia’s invasion in 2022.

They have travelled through Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kramatorsk and Lviv during repeated four-week deployments.

John and Ray, originally from Carshalton, South London, spend five days at a time unloading donations, despite the threat from Russian drones and missiles.

John said: “I like to call him my ray of light because he makes so many people smile.

“It’s so dark over here and mentally tough, but people love having him here.

“I’ve honestly never known a dog to have so much attention.

“Everyone stops to pet him and take pictures with him.

“He’s brought that fighting spirit with him and most people don’t actually call him Ray, most of them call him Winston.

“All the staff at the Ukrainian border recognise Ray because he’s been coming with me for two years.”

He added: “We work from Lviv in the west to Kramatorsk in the east, typically staying around 30km behind the front line.

“It’s such a good way of boosting morale out here.

“I’m not a military man, but this is my duty.

“My great-grandparents fought in the First World War and my grandparents were active in the Second World War.

“The stuff is out there, we just need people to help move it.”
