A BRITISH backpacker almost bled to death after being stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle in a bar.
Hugo Mooney said he was attacked by a man he tried to stop harassing a female friend — and would “be dead” if a holidaying doctor had not stemmed the blood flow.

Hugo was drinking with his pals when the row erupted at the Bamboo Bar on the ‘Full Moon Party‘ island of Koh Pha Ngan on January 28.
Hugo, of Bristol, went to hospital on Thailand’s Koh Pha Ngan island.
He claims the next day police removed him without a doctor’s consent and put him in a room with his alleged attacker.
He said: “It was only 14 hours after he tried to kill me.
“I thought they wanted me to do a deal with him.
“I kept saying, ‘I don’t care about money, I want him in jail’.”
His Thai pal Chanjira Witthayabumrung alleged the suspect “paid police” to be released.
The investigating officer, Police Lieutenant Patcharapol Wanghin from the Koh Pha Ngan Police Station, said: “The investigation into the attack is continuing.
“It will progress according to the law. We need both sides of the case for it to be fair to everyone. There is no corruption.”
