BRIT holidaymakers are up in arms and threatening to boycott Spain over a new £97 daily rule.
The rule will see tourists having to prove they have the cash on hand for each day they are visiting.
Brit holiday makers are furious about a new rule that was introduced in Spain[/caption]It applies to both the mainland, and the Canary and Balearic islands – popular hotspots for sunseekers.
The new rule has not been well received by British tourists who have flocked to social media to share their anger – with some even vowing to “boycott” the country.
One person wrote: “If the country would stand together and boycott Spain in favour of other Mediterranean countries, within three months they would be begging us to come back.
“17 million visitors is a lot of money to the Spanish economy.”
A second agreed: “Stop going they’ll soon stop it. Simple. There’s bags of other places ,Greece, Turkey, Malta, Italy you name it.
“All cheaper too.”
A third said: “Another Mediterranean country tried to move away from tourism.
“They forgot how much tourism contributed to the economy.”
Another questioned: “Why not take it to a country where you are welcome and not just your money? Vote with your wallet.
“Spain will get the message, even if by then you’ve discovered better places and never return to Spain.”
MORE RULES
It comes as earlier this month, new rules were announced limiting water consumption on the Costa del Sol amidst an ongoing drought.
Water supplies in some areas have been switched off overnight while Junta de Andalucia introduced a limit on the filling up private pools and garden watering.
Tourism were concerned the strict measures could stop some people visiting the area, which relies heavily on tourism for its economy.
According to The Mirror some local authorities have also called for stricter nightlife restrictions.
This could see bars and restaurants being forced to close earlier, although these measures are in discussion rather than coming into force for now.
In January we revealed how tourists could be slapped with a huge fine for taking a selfie in one holiday hotspot.
To avoid human traffic jams in highly touristic spots, such as Positano in the Amalfi Coast,Italy, local authorities have imposed fines on people obstructing the traffic to take a selfie.
Particularly in peak season, if you stop to take a selfie in a crowded spot in Positano, you could face a fine of an eye watering 275 euros (£236) according to travel experts at eShores.
