Protests have started across the country after the central government issued a notification for the implementation of the CAA law. Student organizations have protested against it and demanded a revision, while many Muslim organizations and leading leaders and intellectuals of the country have condemned the CAA and called it a law that undermines the principles of equality and justice.

Muslim leaders issued a joint press statement against the 'CAA' (Citizenship Amendment Act), saying that announcing the implementation of the law just before the general elections, shows that it is all for electoral gains. is being done. This is an undesirable act and a reprehensible decision. Because it has introduced provisions that are against the principles of equality and secularism enshrined in the Indian Constitution. Article 14 of the Indian Constitution guarantees equality to all citizens and prohibits discrimination between persons on the basis of religion.

Section 2 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 has introduced clause (b) to provide for prejudicial treatment. It mentions persons belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Christian communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan who entered India before December 2014. They will not be treated as immigrants. While the inclusion of Muslims in the act has been avoided on the basis of religion, it has dealt a serious blow to the principle of equal rights among citizens. This discriminatory legislation is undermining the social fabric of our country and destroying the fundamental principles of diversity.

Now that the general elections are near, the implementation of this law has been announced, it is questionable. It is a narrow-minded political interest-seeking attitude that seeks to achieve political ends by dividing society on religious lines.

Muslim leaders in their joint statement said that we believe that citizenship should be granted on the basis of the principles of equality and equity. There should be no condition of caste, religion, nation or race or community in it. Inequality and caste bias will tear apart the fabric of our national secularism.

"We urge the government to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 and uphold the values ​​of inclusion and equality in our constitution," he added in his statement.
