US Vice President Kamala Harris said she is honored to have President Biden's endorsement to run for president, as her campaign officials and supporters began making calls to secure delegate support for her candidacy ahead of the Democratic National Convention in August.
In a message to her supporters, Kamala confirmed that she seeks to win the elections, noting that the current circumstances and the upcoming elections are not normal. She called on Americans to donate to her campaign, saying: "I will start my campaign in the coming days and present the difference between my vision and Trump's vision."
In a related context, Harris campaign officials and supporters have begun making contacts to secure support for her candidacy before the Democratic National Convention next August, which is necessary to ensure that Harris replaces Biden in the November 5 elections as a competitor to the Republican Party candidate, Donald Trump.
“A lot of people are working on this now,” a source familiar with the matter told Reuters, adding: “She has made it clear that she will work to gain their support.”
About 4,000 Democratic delegates will meet in Chicago from August 19 to 22 to choose the Democratic Party’s nominee, most of whom have pledged to support Biden. After his surprise announcement, they are no longer bound by any party law or rules to support anyone.
Biden was the party's presumptive nominee, but he had no direct power over who would be the official nominee for delegates. Harris needs the support of 1,969 of the 3,936 Democratic delegates to secure the nomination at the August convention.
