China unveils a new naval chief as maritime tensions climb

China unveils new head of navy, Hu Zhongming, promoted to general in Beijing ceremony attended by President Xi Jinping. Hu is now commander of the largest navy by number of vessels. Dong Jun, the head of the navy in 2021, also attended the ceremony. Tensions rise in South China Sea and Taiwan Strait as China flexes its muscles. Chinese military holds major drills around Taiwan and vows to bring Taiwan under Beijing's control. Wang Wenquan is the new political commissar of the Southern Theater Command.
