Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on Saturday that his country will stop its coal exports to Israel as the war in the Gaza Strip continues.
Petro wrote on the “X” platform: “We will stop our coal exports to Israel until the genocide stops.”
In May, he announced the severing of diplomatic relations between his country and Israel, describing the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as committing genocide against the Palestinians.
Last month, Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo announced that the country's president had directed the opening of an embassy for the country in the city of Ramallah in the West Bank.
Murillo said: “President Petro issued the order to open the Colombian embassy in Ramallah, and to represent Colombia in Ramallah, and this is the next step that we will take,” expressing his belief that more countries will soon begin to support recognition of the Palestinian state before the United Nations, which are efforts that will... Colombia actually supported it.
