Imagine being dragged out of bed in the middle of the night and brought to a world where smiles are banned and the boundaries between discipline & abuse blur. This unsettling situation is not a dystopian fiction plot but kids’ everyday life at The Academy at Ivy Ridge.
Director Katherine Kubler, once a disciplinary boarding school student, returns to campus alongside her classmates to deal with their shared past of abuse and brainwashing.
The series uncovers the school’s dark side and its long-term impact on their lives with their heartbreaking stories.
The official trailer shows many students kidnapped and taken to The Academy at Ivy Ridge at night. A series of disturbing images show kids being strangled and others lying face down on the floor with their wrists tied behind them. Some footage is captured during the docu-series production, while others are recreated.
In the official trailer, a woman remarks, “I arrived at 3 a.m., and they told me I wasn’t allowed to talk anymore. And you’ll never leave.” Another person says, “They had been treated like prisoners.”
The documentary series covers a program aimed at influencing the parents of students in troublesome teen boarding schools. The show features footage of former students tearfully reliving their horrible experiences at these facilities.
One interviewee refers to the show as a ‘cult’ with a worldwide reach. The inclusion of reports regarding student abuse in these schools implies that the program is increasing awareness of an increasing issue.

Katherine Kubler directed the limited series. Kubler also attended the Academy. Melanie Miller, Diane Becker, Katherine Kubler, Rachel Libert, and Brian Knappenberger serve as Executive Producers. Fishbowl Films, LLC is in charge of production.
The Program: Cons, Cults, Kidnapping will be available exclusively on Netflix beginning March 5, 2024.
