Diseases that cause snoring
-
Dr. Polina Kuntsidaelo, a cardiovascular disease specialist, announced that snoring may indicate certain diseases that a person suffers from.

The doctor says that snoring at the beginning may indicate the presence of ear, nose, and throat diseases that cause difficulty breathing through the nose, such as rhinitis, sinusitis, benign tumors in the nose, deviated nasal septum, and chronic diseases in the tonsils and polyps.

According to her, snoring may be due to anatomical features of the structure of the facial skeleton, neuromuscular diseases and decreased thyroid function. Excess weight and obesity also stimulate snoring because the increased thickness of fatty deposits in the soft tissues of the pharynx causes their narrowing. Snoring may indicate menopause, alcohol abuse, smoking, or taking certain medications.

It indicates that the quiet, monotonous snoring that occurs in the lying position does not cause any harm to health. Loud snoring that occurs while lying on your back often indicates sleep apnea. This is a medical condition characterized by partial or complete cessation of breathing during sleep. It is noted that people who suffer from this condition always complain of headaches, drowsiness during the day, irritability, lack of concentration, heartburn, sweating, suffocation, and frequent urination at night.

The doctor warns that sleep apnea exacerbates the course of chronic diseases - diabetes, cancer, respiratory diseases, epilepsy, and clinical depression. The risk of myocardial infarction and stroke increases. Therefore, those who suffer from sleep apnea are advised to consult a doctor who specializes in treating snoring, an ear, nose and throat doctor, and a sleep specialist. It may require consultation with a neurologist, orthodontist, or endocrinologist.
