President Donald Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday and told a story about an earlier conversation the men had. It was meant to be a funny anecdote, but it left some scratching their heads.
According to Trump, he Macron and their wives two had dinner during a trip to Paris. He didn't mention when it was. Macro said something in French, with no translator, and Trump didn't understand what he was saying. On Monday, Trump laughed that all he did was keep nodding his head — and realized only later he agreed to things he didn't mean to.
"He started speaking the French deal, and we didn't have an interpreter, and he was going on and on and on, and I was just nodding, 'Yes, yes, yes,' and he really sold me out," Trump said.
"Because I got back the next day and I read the papers [and] I said, 'That's not what we said. He's a smart customer, I will tell you that."
Though Trump laughed, the View hosts did not.

"I would recommend Donald Trump — don't go to dinners without an interpreter because you don't sit there with a foreign language and nod to everything," said Sara Haines.
The audience laughed and applauded.
"Well, yeah," Sunny Hostin agreed. "To your point, Sara, I think most presidents don't sit in a room with the leader of an ally without an interpreter, especially if they don't understand the language. I think this president, unfortunately, perhaps either doesn't understand geopolitics and doesn't understand the importance of having allies and the importance of our allyship.
