President Donald Trump posted to his social media Monday telling Americans, "Don't be Stupid!" and even coining a new word: "Panican."
"The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done DECADES AGO," the president wrote. "Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid! Don’t be a PANICAN (A new party based on Weak and Stupid people!). Be Strong, Courageous, and Patient, and GREATNESS will be the result!"
CNN's Sara Sidner commented on the post, "You rarely hear that from someone talking to their constituents, but, there it is."
"We actually heard similar rhetoric this morning from the White House director of the national economic council, Kevin Hassett," reported CNN's Alayna Treene. "He was speaking on Fox News, and he was responding to actually some of the criticism we heard from Trump supporters, like hedge fund manager Bill Ackman."

Ackman posted to his own social media that the president has put the country on the road to "a self-induced, economic nuclear winter."
"Listen, even if you think — and I think a lot of us at the White House think that these economic responses are exaggerated by critics — even if you think that there will be some negative effect from the trade side, that's still a small share of GDP," Hassett told Fox News. "The idea that it's going to be a 'nuclear winter' or something like that — it's completely irresponsible rhetoric."
Also Monday, Trump posted praise for his tariffs, claiming the U.S. was bringing in "billions" from countries that have previously treated the U.S. unfairly.
"Oil prices are down, interest rates are down (the slow moving Fed should cut rates!), food prices are down, there is NO INFLATION, and the long time abused USA is bringing in Billions of Dollars a week from the abusing countries on Tariffs that are already in place. This is despite the fact that the biggest abuser of them all, China, whose markets are crashing, just raised its Tariffs by 34%, on top of its long term ridiculously high Tariffs (Plus!), not acknowledging my warning for abusing countries not to retaliate. They’ve made enough, for decades, taking advantage of the Good OL’ USA! Our past 'leaders' are to blame for allowing this, and so much else, to happen to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
Despite the White House's rhetoric, The New York Times reported Monday, "Wall Street slumped further on Monday, with the S&P 500 nearing a bear market," which is "defined as a drop of 20 percent or more from a recent high."
