Kenya Airways suspends flights after detention of its employees

The airline Kenya Airways announced that it was suspending its flights to Kinshasa on Tuesday, April 30.

This decision follows the arrest and detention deemed “illegal” of two of its employees in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Kenya Airways had asked the military intelligence unit in Kinshasa on Friday to release its two employees detained since April 19 by the services of the Military Detection of Anti-Homeland Activities.

According to Kenya Airways, a military court had accepted a request for release the day before. The Congolese authorities have not communicated about these arrests, but some sources speak of a refused cargo being the cause of this arrest.

According to Kenya Airways, its employees were arrested because they did not have the required customs documents for a valuable cargo that was to be transported on a flight of their company on April 12, 2024.
