Yesterday, Wednesday, Ethiopia celebrated the 13th anniversary of the start of construction of the Renaissance Dam, and published recent pictures showing what the latest construction on the dam has reached.

Official accounts of the Ethiopian government revealed the stages of development and construction of the dam, which it described as a beacon of progress on the Blue Nile, confirming that it began with 10.65 million cubic meters of concrete in the foundations, and that the middle corridor reached a height of 637 meters, and is slowly approaching its final peak, reaching 640 meters. .

She also said that the dam construction process had reached about 95% of the total project, and announced that it would continue with the fifth filling, which is expected to reach 64 billion cubic meters of total capacity.

According to the Ethiopian government’s figures, the construction process requires about 50 billion Ethiopian currency to complete, explaining that as for the concrete backfilling works, the filling of 10.65 million cubic meters of concrete has been completed, and 99.2% of the civil works for the dam have been completed, and 97% of the work has been completed. Electromechanical and 90% of water transmission and electrical control are completed.

In the same context, Seleshi Bekele, head of the Ethiopian negotiating team on the Renaissance Dam file, announced that 5 additional turbines will begin generating power this year, while the Ethiopian News Agency reported that the Renaissance Dam will be used as a new source of work for young people and citizens through fishing, fishing net making, and training in using it.

Birhanu Icha, Deputy Head of the Fisheries Sector at the Agriculture Office in Benishangul-Gumuz Province, where the dam is located, said that 52 fishing associations have been established in the region, noting that it is planned to produce 1,800 tons of fish in the region during this one year, and during this year. 1,310 tons of fish were produced.
