DeFi pioneer Andre Cronje commended the blockchain game EstforKingdom. EstforKingdom is a fully on-chain game created by PaintSwap that uses Cronje’s Fantom chain and boasts an in-game economy.

Cronje affirmed his “mad respect” for EstforKingdom in a post on X (formerly Twitter) earlier today.

Cronje’s Fantom Gains Gaming Partner

Unlike first-generation blockchain games like Axie Infinity, which kept most of the gameplay off-chain, EstforKingdom is hosted entirely on the blockchain with an in-game deflationary economy that requires a crypto wallet. Players can earn BRUSH tokens by engaging in battles for territory. One community member confirmed that they were enjoying the game, while another asked for in-game-play footage.

The blockchain ecosystem founded by Cronje, Fantom, is a partner for the game. Cronje co-founded the Fantom network to speed up transaction costs to rival Ethereum competitors Solana and Avalanche. Now, transaction speeds on Fantom come in below 900 ms.

Web3 Game Experts Favor Gamer Focus

In January this year, the co-founder of the Solana game MixMob said that true innovation lies in combining human capital and technology. Building a Web3 game takes a lot of time, he said, but 2024 games will benefit from the mistakes of first-generation efforts. In an interview with BeInCrypto, Michael Sanders of Horizon Blockchain Games said that future Web3 games may keep much of the gameplay off-chain but keep the in-game tokenomics on blockchains.

But Sanders added that, for Web3 games to be truly successful, they have not to disrupt the immersion. Moreover, he said that gamers should not feel like they are being exploited. Ethereum France president Jérôme de Tychey noted the link between gamers and developers is crucial.

“Blockchain…can pose constraints on the gameplay when heavily used, but it also opens new territory for game designs. As a testimony to this philosophy, we refuse to build our games on play-to-earn models. Instead, we believe in blockchain for its capacity to strengthen the link between players and their favorite games,” de Tychey said.

The advent of an in-game economy in EstforKingdom may solve that. Combined with Fantom’s fast transactions, it could be the first step towards a fully on-chain gaming experience.

BeInCrypto reached out to Cronje for further comment but had yet to hear back at press time.
