Finland announces US strategic bombers flying over its territory

The Finnish Ministry of Defense announced that two American B-52 bombers carried out training flights in Finnish airspace as part of NATO exercises.

"Two US B-52 Stratofortress bombers flew over Finnish airspace during training activities on Sunday, July 21," the ministry added in its statement today.

The statement indicated that two American KC-135 tanker aircraft and a KC-46 refueling aircraft participated in the aforementioned air exercises. The Finnish Ministry of Defense explained that the aircraft were heading from Norway to the south over the Finnish Lapland region.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that MiG-29 and MiG-31 fighters prevented two American B-52N strategic bombers from approaching Russian airspace over the Barents Sea in northern Russia.

The Russian Defense Ministry statement said: " As our fighters approached, the two American bombers turned around and left Russian airspace. Our fighters returned safely to their bases and did not allow any violation of Russian airspace."
