The protesting farmers are protesting against rail today for their demands. Farmers are demanding a fair MSP for their crops from the government.
KMM leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said farmers will sit on railway tracks at several places in Punjab, including Ferozepur, Amritsar, Rupnagar and Gurdaspur districts.
SKM, which is leading the movement of 2020-21, has also announced 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' in Delhi on Thursday. SKM said that more than 400 farmer organizations will participate in the 'Kisan Mahapanchayat'.
Farmers from Punjab, who were marching towards Delhi with similar demands, are currently continuing their protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana.
On February 13, the police stopped these farmers at the Punjab-Haryana border. Water cannons and tear gas were used during the clash between farmers and security personnel.
The farmers began their march with trolleys loaded with ration that would last for months, and said they would not return until their demands were met. Police had placed spikes and concrete barriers on the roads to prevent their vehicles from entering Delhi.
Last Wednesday, SKM and KMM had asked farmers and farm laborers from other states to reach Delhi to press their demands on the government.
The protesting farmers rejected the Centre's proposal on 18 February. In which it was said that government agencies would purchase pulses, maize and cotton at Minimum Security Price (MSP) for five years.
Apart from legal guarantee for MSP, their other demands include farm loan waiver and implementation of Swaminathan Committee recommendations.
