Actu17 reported that a Briton tried to climb the Eiffel Tower in Paris, but about halfway there he had to surrender to the police, and the tower was briefly evacuated.
The portal said that the climber is a 33-year-old man and was arrested on Sunday afternoon, hours before the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, after he made a partial ascent of the Eiffel Tower.
Actu17 has learned that the man, who was shirtless, is a professional climber with British citizenship. The tower was briefly evacuated at the time.
The man started climbing at around 14:30 Paris time in front of several eyewitnesses, and the police quickly arrived at the scene, and the man surrendered at the middle level of the tower.
The portal indicated that the man was placed in detention "for endangering the lives of other people."
