German police reported on Sunday that an octogenarian man hit a Belgian visitor and her 4-year-old child with his car in Berlin, resulting in the death of the mother and her child.
According to the police, the 83-year-old driver was driving his car at an insane speed at the time of the accident that occurred near Potsdamer Platz in central Berlin, and as a result, he hit the woman and her child with great force.
The police explained that the 41-year-old mother died in the hospital where she was taken after being injured in the accident on Saturday, while her son died on the evening of the same day after undergoing emergency surgery.
Berlin Fire Brigade spokesman James Klein said that the car hit the woman while she was crossing the road with her child.
According to the police, the driver was taken to the hospital, where he received treatment at an outpatient clinic affiliated with the hospital, and the police are working to continue investigating the incident.
