Trump surrogate Newt Gingrich took a hatchet to Ruth Bader Ginsburg's comments regarding Roe V Wade to Hannity on Fox News to justify Trumps latest abortion "policy" statement.
"Trump has laid out a perfectly rational strategy, which, by the way, Judge Ginsburg said back in the early 1990s in a speech that she thought Roe versus Wade was wrong because it took the decision of abortion away from the American people and gave it to a group of lawyers," Gingrich said. "So, in a funny way, he and Ruth Bader Ginsburg are on the same side."
Nice try, you lying prick.
Trump and RBG are not on the same side and never were.
Gingrich takes Ginsburg's thoughts on Roe V Wade and twists them to fit his own narrative. He's simply trying to reduce the outrage from pro-life radical evangelicals, who are reportedly furious that Trump has dismissed their goal of a national abortion ban.
In reality, as Fredrick Frommer lays out, Ruth Bader Ginsburg did not like the Roe V Wade decision because it gave pro-lifers a huge target to attack.
She suggested a ruling protecting abortion rights would have been more durable if it had been based on the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution — in other words, if it had focused on gender equality rather than the right to privacy that the justices highlighted.
