Hamas firmly rejects Trump's proposal to move Palestinians from Gaza

ANKARA - Palestinian group Hamas on Wednesday strongly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to "take over" Gaza after resettling Palestinians elsewhere, describing his remarks as "irresponsible."

In a statement, Hamas said Trump's remarks "attack our people and our cause, and will not serve stability in the region."

Hamas stressed that the militant group will not allow any country to occupy their land or impose guardianship on the Palestinian people.

For this reason, Hamas urged the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to immediately meet to discuss Trump's "dangerous statements" and take a firm and historic position that protects the national rights of the Palestinian people.

Earlier, Izzat Al-Rishq, a member of the Hamas movement's political bureau, said Trump's remarks reflected "deep confusion and ignorance about the Palestinian cause and the region as a whole."

"Gaza is not just an ordinary territory for a country to determine its fate, Gaza is an inseparable part of the Palestinian land," Al-Rishq said.

He stressed that "any resolution must be based on ending the occupation and fulfilling the legitimate national rights of our people, not on the logic of power, domination or the mindset of real estate traders."

The Hamas leader added that Trump's statement shows the US's full support for the Israeli occupation and its continued aggression against our people and their rights."

Late Tuesday, Trump said the US would "take over" the Gaza Strip after settling Palestinians in the area under the guise of a sweeping reconstruction plan that he claimed would turn the enclave into the "Riviera of the Middle East."
