Scientists have monitored several strong solar flares that have occurred over the past few days. Did these flares have a serious impact on Earth?
Regarding the issue, the Russian researcher and specialist in the field of space weather forecasting, Maria Aponina, said: “The solar flares that were observed on the morning of May 8 pose some danger to space equipment and could cause magnetic storms on the third or fourth day of their occurrence, but they do not pose a danger to humans.” .
She added: “As for the fact that these flares produced emissions that could pose a danger to the Earth and cause magnetic storms - yes, but the three flares that were monitored were not all dangerous. Rather, only one of them was dangerous, which was at the level of M9.8, and since protons were detected “Emitted by it, this means that the ejected protons could reach Earth’s orbit on the third or fourth day after the flare occurred, and perhaps cause magnetic storms.”
Scientists at the Institute of Applied Geophysics in Moscow announced the observation of three solar flares on the morning of May 8, one of which was very strong. The scientists indicated that the strongest flare, which was of the M9.8 level, occurred at exactly 04:49, and lasted 44 hours. A minute, as a glow from the M1.8 level was observed, which occurred at exactly 03:28, and lasted 17 minutes, and a glow from the M3.4 level, which occurred at exactly 03:51, and lasted 18 minutes.
