Israeli Mossad chief David Barnea met with CIA Director William Burns secretly on Friday in Aqaba, Jordan, to discuss the file of Israeli detainees held by Hamas in Gaza.
The Hebrew "Walla" website reported that Burns briefed the head of the Israeli Mossad on his talks in Egypt and Qatar during the past two days regarding the kidnappers' deal.
Last Wednesday, CIA Director Bill Burns arrived in Egypt and Qatar to hold a round of talks on efforts to free the detainees.
CNN reported that William Burns is currently touring the Middle East as ceasefire negotiations in Gaza reach a dead end.
The network quoted an American official and another source as saying that Burns, who is leading the US administration's efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, is visiting the Middle East.
The two sources said that Burns was in Egypt on Wednesday before heading to Qatar on Thursday.
The American network pointed out that Burns' visit comes at a time when it appears that negotiations to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza have reached a dead end, and are unlikely to be resolved before the beginning of the month of Ramadan, as the American administration had desired.
The American official stated that it is not expected that there will be a "four-way" meeting for Burns with the heads of Egyptian and Israeli intelligence and the Qatari prime minister, as happened in Paris two weeks ago.
