Macronism has come to an end in France

Former French President Francois Hollande said on Saturday that “Macronism,” in reference to the policy pursued by current President Emmanuel Macron, has reached its end in France.

He added in an interview with Agence France-Presse: “I think that (former Prime Minister) Edouard Philippe summarized the situation best, that is, that Macronism has reached its end, if it existed at all at any time, but it has ended.”

Earlier, Edouard Philippe said that by dissolving Parliament, Macron "killed the presidential majority."

According to Philippe, Macron, who failed to win an absolute majority in the 2022 parliamentary elections, will receive fewer seats after the new vote.

Against this background, Hollande said it is time to rebuild the country. According to him, “Macronism” cost France dearly politically, and caused damage to parties and public opinion.

Last week, François Hollande announced his candidacy for the National Assembly elections (the lower house of the French Parliament).

In the European Parliament elections that took place on June 9 in France, the right-wing National Rally party more than doubled its lead over the coalition of President Macron's supporters, obtaining 31.36% of the votes.

Macron subsequently announced the dissolution of the National Assembly  and the holding of early parliamentary elections in two rounds on June 30 and July 7.

According to opinion polls, more than a third of the French are ready to vote for the National Rally party, while the presidential coalition may receive less than 20% of the votes.
