How often a week should you bathe your baby?

Guidelines for keeping children clean vary as they grow, and it turns out that many parents can go overboard in this area.

"Contrary to popular belief, newborns should not be bathed every day," explains pediatrician Sam Hay.

Speaking to Kidspot, Hay said: “Every two or three days  is often enough.”

It is suggested to stay away from soaps that can irritate a baby's sensitive skin, and to use milder bath oils that cleanse and moisturize at the same time.

"Don't overdo the scrubbing either," warns Hay. "Remember, gentle touches are best."

As children reach preschool and elementary school age, daily bathing may seem necessary, especially if they sweat excessively, but Hay stresses that from a health perspective, bathing every 2-3 days is still sufficient.

As for teenagers, the expert says daily showering is essential, especially with all the hormonal changes, sweating and skin problems, such as acne.

He added: "Teenagers' skin is constantly exposed to pollution, in addition to the appearance of acne."

However, it is essential to use a gentle cleanser to care for the fragile skin of teenagers.

“The skin is a delicate organ,” warns Hay. “Too much bathing will strip away moisturizing oils, leading to dryness, itching, and even infection.”
