A WOMAN who thought she had rescued an adorable lost puppy off the street was left stunned when she discovered its real identity.

Marian Vázquez Alarcón said she was so heartbroken when she saw the tiny pup wandering the streets of Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, she just knew she had to rescue it.

Alarcón posted a video to TikTok, saying she thought she found a dogJam Press

Alarcón revealed that she tried to raise her new pup with her other dogs at her home, saying that it didn’t take long for her to realise something wasn’t quite right.

The alarm bells first started to ring when she noticed the “puppy” had an insatiable appetite for meat.

Unlike her other dogs, Alarcón noted that her new pet always acted aggressively towards his food, and that he took great pleasure in ripping flesh off the bone with its teeth.

She added that it would make howling noises throughout the night.

But it was only when the pup started to rapidly develop that Alarcón realised this was no ordinary puppy.

She had brought home a coyote.

Coyotes are a species of the dog family native to North America that is slightly smaller than the wolf.

The wild animal is a nocturnal carnivore with impressing hunting abilities, often able to run at speeds at 40mph.

The unsuspecting owner revealed: “It was a beautiful coyote. Although he was raised among dogs, he never ceased to be wild.”

After realising she had made a dangerous mistake, Alarcón hastily called the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection for help.

She said that she told officials how she had raised the wild animal and that it was still with her, and then they eventually sent experts to retrieve the coyote.

Alarcón added that officials released the coyote into an ecotourism centre called Bosque de los Murmullos – the Forest of Whispers.

Alarcón explained: “The coyote is no longer with me because he was always wild.

“He grew so much that he simply couldn’t fit into a home anymore. You see, he’s a wild animal and tends to destroy many things.”

It is currently unclear whether there are any plans to move the coyote from the Forest.

It comes after a family in America heroically saved a puppy they found “wandering and distressed” – only to find out that it was a coyote.

After the family contacted the New England Wildlife Center (NEWC) for help, experts expressed concern that the family may have been exposed to rabies.

Coyotes roaming the US are commonly infected with the deadly infection, which can be fatal for all mammals – including humans.

But alongside the Mass Department of Public Health, the NEWC determined “there was no potential exposure risk to rabies”.

Another dog lover believed she had bought an expensive pug, but it grew up to be a completely different breed.

Instead of the pedigree pug she had paid for, Alfie the dog grew into an unidentified breed. Unfazed, the owner said: “but we love him, and bonus is, no health issues.”

In a strange set of circumstances, a man in China learned the hard way why people are warned not to pick up strays.

The man took home what he thought was a lost fluffy kitten and cared for it until he realised it was a baby leopard cat.
