Residents of Denmark are expressing bewilderment that President-elect Donald Trump is threatening their nation.

As reported by NBC News, assorted interviews conducted by Danish media and some international outlets have revealed that many Danes are scratching their heads at Trump's demand that their nation relinquish its hold over Greenland.

“We are a peaceful country and we want to live our own life,” social worker Terkil Husum Isaksen told Danish broadcaster DR. “And then to make threats like that, that is far beyond the line.”

Copenhagen resident Birgitte Jakobsen, meanwhile told Reuters that "it’s a strange thing to threaten our allied countries, and I don’t understand what he is doing quite honestly."

NBC notes that Greenland residents also don't understand why Trump seems so fixated on seizing control of their lands.

Inger Skydsbjerg, an administration worker in Nuuk, told Danish broadcaster DKTV that "we have Denmark. We have the Arctic Command here in Greenland, in Nuuk, that defend us. So, we are satisfied with this."

In addition to threatening Denmark, Trump has also been making aggressive noises toward Canada, which for decades has been one of America's closest allies in global affairs.
