I rescued an adorable baby kitten but it turned out to be something far more dangerous – even vets were baffled

A WOMAN was stunned when she realised that the adorable baby kitten she had rescued was something far more dangerous.

Even vets were left baffled by the creature when Martine Vos – a volunteer at a Belgium-based cat rescue group – brought it to their clinic.

When the abandoned animal was first picked up at first all had seemed fine and dandy.

Vos said: “A man called our rescue number because he found a very little black kitten, only a few days old,”

She added: “He asked us to come and pick up this little baby.”

But, little did Vos know, she was in for a huge shock.

Soon after the kitten’s rescue Vos noticed something strange about it.

She said: “When I took the baby in my hands, she seemed really big and it felt totally different how a kitten should feel.”

And when she inspected the animal more closely she was shocked to find its face didn’t look very kitten-like either.

A confused Vos visited the vets hoping to solve the mystery. But the vet was just as puzzled.

“The one thing she was sure of is that it was a baby girl,” Vos said.

Next she took the animal to wildlife centre, and fortunately they were able to tell her what breed it was.

They revealed that the creature was actually a baby fox – which often resemble kittens in the early stages of their life.

Although some might be appalled after realising they had rescued a wild creature Vos was thrilled with the discovery.

“I am really interested in the native wild animals,” she said.

And added: “And because of my surname ‘Vos’, which means ‘fox’ in Dutch. It was my dream to meet a fox in real life.

“So holding this little baby fox in my hands and preventing it from a certain death was a dream that came true!”

The baby fox has since been placed with wildlife experts to be raised until she’s old enough to return to the wild.

Although the creature turned out not to be a kitten, Vos was still more than happy to have helped.

“As a volunteer for Cat Shelter, I am committed to help animals in danger or in need, especially the very young kittens,” she said.

However, although the fox cub appeared cute and cuddly, foxes can carry “a range of different parasites” according to Wildlife Online.

These include a round worm which can cause nasty infections in humans, as well as the frightening rabies virus.

Despite this seeming an unlikely affair, its not the first time an owner has been left baffled as their animal turned into an unexpected creature.

Earlier this month we told how a woman who thought she had adopted an adorable puppy after it was dropped by a bird was shocked when it grew into a very different beast.

A hungry eagle had been flying over the woman’s house clutching the terrified pup in its talons when it decided this prey would be more effort than it was worth.
