Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) believes the secret to former President Donald Trump's success is that he fibs often and with gusto.
"There are certain voters in this country that have been victimized by a very simple concept: If you lie boldly, and frequently and repetitively — it will work," McCaskill told MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace Tuesday. "And that's what Trump has done. He has consistently sold lies."
The trigger of this commentary was a recently published interview billionaire Mark Cuban gave Axios in which he compared President Joe Biden to Trump.
“I don’t want a snake oil salesperson as president," Cuban told Axios. “If they were having his last wake, and it was him versus Trump, and he was being given last rites, I would still vote for Joe Biden."
Cuban explained Biden has his vote because he prefers a politician to a salesman.
"One will tell you his snake oil will cure everything that ails you," Cuban said. "The other will show you the details of his policies through charts, graphs, and statements. [Biden] is precise and methodical and wants to sell the steak. Not the sizzle.”
McCaskill fears people in her state of Missouri want the sizzle.
"They are just totally convinced that every prosecution against him is beefsteak," she said. "They're convinced there's nothing wrong with Jan. 6...That was staged by the federal government. they are convinced Donald Trump does everything right."
But the former Missouri lawmaker still holds onto a slim, silver lining.
"History is not going to be kind to this man," she said.
