The Shinde government of Maharashtra changed the name of Ahmednagar, a city with a historical Muslim identity, to Ahlia Devi Nagar, and also changed the names of 8 local railway stations.
Just as the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh started the process of changing Muslim and Urdu names, its effect is also widely seen in BJP-ruled states. The Shinde government of Maharashtra is also following in the footsteps of Laga Tar Yogi. After legalizing the name change of Aurangabad and Osmanabad, this government has also changed the name of another historical city, Ahmednagar. Apart from this, about 8 railway stations have also been renamed.
According to the report, the Shinde government has changed the name of Ahmednagar city to 'Punya Shlok Ahilya Devi Nagar' in the cabinet decision. Now this district will be known as Punia Shlok Ahilya Devi Nagar. Apart from this, the state government has also decided to change the names of eight local railway stations in Mumbai. It is being said about the names of these railway stations that these were the names kept during the British period.
Besides Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar along with other cabinet ministers were also present in the state cabinet meeting. The biggest decision taken in the cabinet meeting was to change the name of Ahmednagar city. Earlier, the state government had named Aurangabad as Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv.
It should be noted that the history of Ahmednagar is very old. This system has also been the capital of royal sultans. The city was founded by the first Sultan Ahmad Nizam Shah of the Nizam Shahi dynasty. Ahmednagar was incorporated into the Mughal Empire by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1637 AD. In the same Ahmednagar, there is also the famous jail where the mujahideen of the Azadi movement were imprisoned by the British and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was also included.
