Iranian authorities announced today (Monday) the death of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian, and other officials as a result of the helicopter they were on board crashing in the northwest of the country.
Iranian Vice President Mohsen Mansouri confirmed on the X platform the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in the helicopter crash, and wrote: “To God we belong and to Him we shall return.”
Iranian state television also confirmed the death of President Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian, and all passengers of that helicopter.
Iranian television had indicated that “when the helicopter was found, there was no sign that the helicopter’s occupants were alive yet.”
Earlier, the head of the Iranian Red Crescent, Pir Hossein Kolivand, announced that the wreckage of President Ebrahim Raisi’s helicopter had been found.
The Iranian Red Crescent sent search and rescue teams to two areas in which the Turkish Akinci drone identified a heat source in East Azerbaijan Province (northwest) to search for the helicopter that was carrying Raisi.
It is noteworthy that the Turkish Ministry of Defense allocated an “Akinci” drone and a “Cougar” helicopter equipped with night vision technology to participate in search and rescue work for the Iranian president’s helicopter.
On Sunday, Iranian state television announced that a helicopter carrying President Raisi and a number of officials had been involved in an accident, after he participated with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, in the opening of a dam on the border of the two countries.
The official Iranian news agency "IRNA" reported that 3 helicopters were carrying the president and officials during their return, and first aid teams were sent to the site of the accident.
According to IRNA, among the passengers of the helicopter were Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the representative of the Supreme Leader in East Azerbaijan Province, Muhammad Ali Al Hashem, and the Governor of East Azerbaijan, Malek Rahmati.
