Is there a relationship between artificial insemination and tumors?
-
Dr. Maria Uskova, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, announced that some believe that artificial insemination programs may be associated with the development of cancer in a woman’s body.

According to her, scientists raised the question of whether artificial insemination could lead to cancer almost immediately after the appearance of this method of treatment. Some preliminary conclusions can be drawn from the use of the artificial insemination method in practice for a little over 40 years.

She says: “The artificial insemination program is accompanied by hormonal stimulation of ovulation to obtain the egg. Accordingly, many women fear the risk of cancer, especially uterine, ovarian, and breast cancer, due to the hormonal stimulation phase. They believe that a large number of hormonal medications used for stimulation may increase the possibility of infection.” Hormone-dependent tumors.

The expert points out that the absence of pregnancy itself increases the possibility of developing malignant tumors, such as endometrial and ovarian cancer. Not using breastfeeding also increases the risk of breast cancer. So although many cancers are sensitive to hormone levels, this cannot be evidence of a link between cancer and IVF. In addition, there is not yet a study whose results have shown that stimulating the ovaries during the artificial insemination process increases the risk of developing tumors.

According to her, IVF in itself does not lead to the development of tumors, but of course, if 10-20 IVF cycles are performed, it is impossible to predict how the body will react to this. That is, there is still no evidence that artificial insemination increases the incidence of cancer.

Based on this, there is no serious reason for women to refuse infertility treatment in this way. However, every woman before artificial insemination must undergo an examination prescribed by a doctor to determine the presence of possible contraindications.

In conclusion, the doctor points out that modern medicine methods and devices used in diagnosis allow cancer to be detected at an early stage of its development, as well as to determine the presence or absence of other factors that increase the possibility of cancer.
