Kabosu has died at the age of 17

Her owner said: “Kabosu, today, May 24th, at 7.50am fell into a deep sleep. Kabosu is at rest now.”

Kabosu’s viral meme inspired the creation of Dogecoin in 2013.

It initially started as a joke currency but its success inspired a cohort of dog-themed tokens such as Shiba Inu.

Her owner said “a farewell party” will be held on Sunday.

“It will be held at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1pm to 4pm,” she said.
