A PRO-PUTIN military base in a breakaway region of Moldova was struck by a kamikaze drone on the final day of Russia’s sham election.

The blast, which destroyed an Mi-8MT helicopter, could have been a false flag operation engineered by Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin, 71.

Footage showed an explosion near a base for Russian troops in Transnistria that was reportedly the result of a kamikaze drone strike.

Smoke poured from the military base in Tiraspol as the Mi-8MT helicopter burned to the ground.

The explosion came on the third and final day of Russia’s bogus presidential election, which early results predict Putin has won with 88 per cent of the vote.

The Kremlin dictator is thought by some to be preparing to make a new territorial grab on Moldovan territory.

Residents of the Russian-controlled enclave between Moldova and Ukraine have begged Moscow for “protection” against the despot’s alleged plans to attempt another land grab.

Moldova said the explosion was a “provocation” not staged by Ukraine.

The Bureau of Reintegration of Moldova reported: “The incident in question is an attempt to cause fear and panic in the region.

“The military equipment in the photographs has not been working for several years.

“The authorities in Chisinau, who are in contact with the Ukrainian side, do not confirm the fact of an attack on the Transnistrian region.”

Ukraine denied claims that it was responsible for the blast, according to the Moldovan government which made contact with Kyiv.

Pro-Russian officials believe the region could become a new flashpoint in Russia‘s war with Ukraine.

The thin strip of land has been under Russian control since the collapse of the Soviet Union but is recognised as part of Moldova – outside the EU and Nato.

Last month, a special assembly voted to pass a resolution requesting measures from Russia to “protect Transnistria amidst increased pressure from Moldova”.

More than 220,000 Russian citizens live in the region permanently, the appeal noted.

Moscow has said an overwhelming majority of the population wish to be incorporated into Russia.

Putin keeps a “peacekeeping” force of up to 2,000 troops in the region, as well as thousands of paramilitaries reportedly ready to take arms when the call comes.

Another two polling stations were reportedly struck today amid Russia’s presidential election – including one in the Moldovan capital Chisinau.

Two Molotov cocktails were said to have been thrown at the Russian embassy used for voting by expats.

A 54-year-old Moldovan with Russian citizenship was detained and questioned after running from the scene, police said.

And in Urals city Perm, a 64-year-old woman detonated a “large firecracker” at the Soldatov House of Culture being used as a polling station.

Police said she suffered a hand injury and was hospitalised.

Law enforcement agencies are conducting an investigation.

Polling stations across Russia have been hit by a wave of fire and paint attacks each day of Putin’s sham election.

Russians were reportedly detained for vandalism after pouring dye into ballot boxes and throwing petrol bombs at booths.
