Kachin State The Kachin Liberation Army (KIA) has captured an important strategic base under the 46th Infantry Division based in Sumprabum City after a two-month attack on May 5 at 4:00 a.m., the KIA said.
They said that they are continuing to attack because there are still two small outposts left to fully control the entire city.
KIA news and information officer Col. Nobu told RFA that Sumprabum is strategically important to both sides.
"Our brigade (1) from Sumprabum. It is a very important place because it controls the areas of the 7th Brigade. If you come from the Myitkyina side, there is a starting camp in Tianzhu. On the other side of Putao, it's in Swampian. Once you get to Sumprabum, there are no more beginner camps around it. That's why the military council is trying hard not to miss out. They come by air almost every day. There are some reinforcements from the Putao side.”
It is said that the attack on Khlara (46) strategic camp in Sumprabum city has been going on since last March 9th, and currently most of the city is controlled by the KIA side.
RFA reached out to Kachin State Spokesperson of the Military Council, Social Affairs Minister U Moe Min Thein by phone to get a response about this situation, but he did not receive a response.
Due to the fighting, the Myitkyina - Putao road is closed, so there is no fuel or fuel in Putao city. Residents say there is a shortage of medicine and food.
