A KILLER made a shocking deathbed confession which led cops to find remains of victims 24 years after they went missing.

Larry Webb had long been a suspect in the disappearance of Susan Carter, 41, and her daughter, Natasha “Alex” Carter, 10.

The mother and daughter vanished on August 8 2000 and were last known to be living with Webb in his residence.

Their bodies were finally discovered on Monday at Webb’s backyard as he revealed the truth shortly before passing away.

FBI Supervisory Special Agent Tony Rausa said: “The way the crime was detailed to us by Larry Webb and the condition we found the bodies in confirmed for us with a high degree of certainty that the two bodies found are those of Susan and Alex Carter.”

Alex’s father, Rick Lafferty, said: “It’s kind of a sad day, but also a happy day because I can bring my baby home.”

The 82-year-old was indicted for first-degree murder in October 2023 after the investigators found a bullet at his house’s walls with Alex’s DNA.

But the court proceedings were halted due to the health of Webb who was moved to a nursing home.

Benjamin Hatfield, the prosecuting attorney for Raleigh County, said: “We had issues with securing his medical clearance to be incarcerated.

“It was a bit difficult to move through the court process in the early stages.”

But the West Virginia native had suffered a medical episode on Monday in which he had confessed to the crime.

Hatfield added: “It was a detailed, undeniable, unconflicted confession.”

Webb admitted to shooting Susan after money allegedly had gone missing from his home.

He added that he felt he had no choice but to kill Alex afterwards to avoid “detection”.

Webb then described wrapping the two bodies in bed linings and burying them in a shallow grave on his property.

Hatfield confirmed that the confession aligned perfectly with the known facts of the case and the evidence collected.

Webb was brought to the excavation site but his memory was clouded due to health and he couldn’t remember the exact location.

Rausa said: “He couldn’t pinpoint the location. And with surgical precision, these two operators worked those excavators and literally went row by row by row.”

Just six hours before the remains were finally found, Webb was rushed to Montgomery General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Hatfield said: It was later that same afternoon when we found Susan and Alex Carter.

“A bit of a poetic ending that not even I could write.”

The remains of Alex and Susan were sent to coroner’s office for further investigation.
